Crushing Tones, Desperate Rhythms.

Louisiana Guerrilla is rock music. Nathan Self performs over 40 original songs in both electric and acoustic forms. Typically appearing as a solo act, Seth Avant and Josh Anders often join in on drums. The music is fierce and serious. So if you like rock, enjoy!

Review by Bootleg

"The Baton Rouge band is a small group of revolving players, namely Nathan Self. But the geography lends itself to the swampy feel of underground congress, a heady and syrupy thick collection of rock songs that owe as much to John Fogerty as it does the Seattle sound.

The music is built around brooding guitar playing and wiry singer Self. Louisiana Guerrilla works like barracuda in a bloodied grunge-era ocean, ripping through snarling guitar riffs with vocals that feel like someone rocking back and forth in a hospital ward. The tempo remains in the middle, as if Dino Jr was slowed down on the record player. Vocalist Self is a howler, somewhere between the guy from Canned Heat and Crazy Horse-era Neil Young.

underground congress is fit for the indie fans who also dig Alice in Chains or Dead Confederate. It's solemn, but heavy stuff. The drums are deep and thunderous and the guitar growls and sputters along. While some tracks falter ('Eight'), Self shows himself to be a good singer, a fine fit for the music given his timbre. The music is decidedly raw here, as if in demo form.

The album hits its stride with 'Saturation Pt." and 'Introduction' sounds like a Neil Young song done by Jerry Cantrell. Another choice track is 'Not Free' which gets down fast with a good groove, ending quickly at under two minutes.

Self is onto something here but it will be interesting to see what this comes to with more players involved."
